That’s the spirit

As Halloween approaches, I thought it would be fun to visit a psychic to find out what my future holds. I love all things supernatural. I’m no stranger to psychic phenomena. Halloween season tends to magnify everyone’s interest in the occult.

I did some internet research to find a local psychic. Then I remembered almost everyday I drive past the eye-catching yellow and red building next to Super Scoops on Main Street. You can’t miss it even if you’re not psychic. Since the the awning says “Psychic Readings”, I thought this might be a good place to start. The sign hanging out front reads “Walk-Ins Welcome.” It’s like they knew I was coming.

The weather Saturday was sunny and bright – not too hot, not too cool – a perfect autumn afternoon. The exact opposite of a dark and stormy night. I parked in the lot and walked up the path to the front door. I kept my head down hoping none of my neighbors recognized me if they were stuck in the stopped traffic on Main Street.

I was a little apprehensive. I’ve only had a couple of psychic readings before. Most of the information from previous readings consisted of sweeping generalizations that could apply to anyone. Some predictions may have been spot-on in retrospect. I assumed today’s adventure was going to net the same generic results. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Isabella, the psychic medium, greeted me at the door with a smile. She asked me to take a seat in the spiritual reading room. I was pleasantly surprised. She was more Long Island Medium than Morticia Addams. The red room was well lit, full of interesting artifacts and unusual bric-a-brac. I glanced around the room noting the unusual décor. There was a lot to look at – figurines of all sizes and shapes. There were multiple eye-shaped artifacts and cryptic symbols everywhere I looked. The glass table had a sheer cloth over the top. The cloth had astrological symbols around the edge and a triangle design with an eye in the middle as the centerpiece.

I asked for a price list before things went too far. I qualified for the Saturday Special, a sampler of the services offered. My luck had changed already and I just walked in the door.

After a few basic questions, Isabella began my tarot card, palm reading and psychic evaluation. In the beginning, things she told me were fairly universal and could have applied to lots of people, but they were pretty darn close to how I would describe myself. I was happy with my positive aura colors  – red, gold and green (even though they are the colors from the song Karma Chameleon). I was a Culture Club fan in the 80’s. There’s no way Isabella could have known that.

My tarot card reading revealed financial stability (whew). She told me I had achieved a moderate amount of success in my career but I never reached the level I would have liked. Amen to that. I was told I’m a caring person who gives a lot, but I don’t feel enough reciprocation from certain give-ees. Just a phone call would be nice, sometimes. (Isabella’s words, not mine, although I must admit I’ve had that same thought on numerous occasions). I’m sure many people feel the same way. Some of them may even be waiting for a phone call from me.

My palm reading revealed a long life ahead of me. Tell me something I don’t know. My parents and grandparents have passed the coveted longevity gene to me, so I’ve got plenty of time to finish all my unfinished projects.

The psychic reading that followed was a little too close to the mark. Isabella told me a couple of things about my health that surprised me. I’ll spare you the details but the two issues she spoke of have already been happening to me. She told m enext year I’ll be taking a long trip over a lot of water to a far-away land. My son in Japan will be happy to hear that. I was given insight to some things that are happening at my work (which I can’t discuss because they may be reading this). After a rocky end of the year, things will be looking up in the spring. I can’t wait.

When Isabella told me I was being watched over by a couple of specific guardian angels, I got goose bumps. I could almost feel them standing beside me as she described what she saw. Not everyone has dead relatives watching out for them. I’ve got two!

My last past life in France ended with a broken engagement and a broken heart which I never recovered from. I never married but I lived there a long time. That explains my fondness for escargot.

Isabella gave me the opportunity to ask a couple of questions. The answers were all very uplifting. She does warn her clients that they must be prepared to hear the bad in order to hear the good. My session ended on a positive note. I was happy to learn I’m not surrounded by dark forces. I hate when that happens.

I wanted to ask Isabella more questions about herself but I ran out of time and there were other visitors arriving. She has three business locations: Stoneham, Newburyport and another local town. I enjoyed my mid-afternoon psychic sampling. I look forward to my financial success coming in the spring. Most of all, I can’t wait for next year’s long journey over water to a far-away land. Who knows what the future holds? Apparently Isabella does. And after my psychic reading, so do I.
